AppSumo Designer Awesomeness Bundle

We think that this is a great little bundle and the guys behind it seem really cool. So, if you’d like one, just refer someone that might want to attend this Friday. See the bundle at https://www.appsumo.com.

We’re still finding locals that hadn’t heard of the event, so let someone know and have them register with our shiny new Wufoo form here: https://dandenney.wufoo.com/forms/frontend-design-conference-appsumo

There is a a deadline, though, because we have to get your name over to the AppSumo guys before the offer expires. So, this will run til tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m.

See you Friday!!

Front-End Ignite / Meetup

Why

The conference day and the after-party go by so fast. So, we wanted to set up some extra time for people to get to know each other and talk shop. We also thought it would be great for anyone interested to share something that they’re passionate about.

When and Where

So, we’re running an Ignite and meetup on Saturday after the conference from 11am – 3pm. It will be at Studio 620, which is a nice gallery near the hotel. (map) I have attended Pecha Kucha nights there before and it is a great space for open talk.

What

Per http://ignite.oreilly.com, Ignite is “a high-energy evening of 5-minute talks by people who have an idea—and the guts to get onstage and share it with their hometown crowd.” Well, we’re close. We’ll be doing it in the morning/early afternoon and it won’t just be hometown people.

20 Slides, 15 Seconds each for a 5-Minute Talk

Basically, it’s a rapid talk that is 5 minutes long and consists of 20 slides. The talk begins and you progress slides every 15 seconds to share your passion in 5 minutes. Ours will have a common theme: front-end design (surprise, surprise).

So, here’s what you do:
Find something related to Front-End Design that you love and want to share with everyone. Put together 20 slides that help you make your point, practice and do it on Saturday! Oh, and please RSVP if you are sure you are coming. It will help us gauge what we need that day.

I’m hoping that we find some future speakers!!!

(We will have a few different types of connections for laptops for the presentations or you can send it over to me and I will save them on my MBP. Any questions, email me at dan(at)frontenddesignconference.com)

Comment to Win Contest for All Registered Attendees

If you’re registered for Front-End and you’d like to check out Converge SE, comment on this post with which of the speakers you’d like to see most!

The conference is on Saturday, June 26th, running from 9am til around 4:15pm. It looks like it is going to be amazing and they have made tickets very affordable! So, you can always register if you don’t win.

Speaking of winning, I want to give time for everyone to find out about this but I also want you to be able to plan getting there, so we’ll pick a winner Wednesday after 12pm.

So, comment below with who you want to see most!

For me, it’s Neil Patel and he happens to be the first speaker of the day. I’m a big fan of Crazy Egg and Kiss Insights, as well as his blog Quicksprout. Of course, it will also rock to see 2009 speaker Kevin Hale’s presentation too. Yes, I’m a fanboy, I know!

Communication

“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”

- George Bernard Shaw

communication errors

Communication

I have been very guilty of this illusion lately and I’m intent on fixing it! I would like to thank Joanna Camburn of the Compass Knowledge Group for pointing out a pretty big hole in my communication logic. See, I have grown into quite a social media junkie. (Well, more of a Twitter-a-holic than anything else.) I use Twitter for communication any chance that I can, so I based my customer service strategy around it for the conference. That would have been fine if I had left the door open for people that don’t use Twitter. You know, something simple like an email address on the site.

On top of needing to fix my approach to communication, I have a ton of ideas! Rather than continually rearranging the site, I see great potential for running a blog around the event. I don’t know of any other event that does it, so that’s all the more reason!

What’s Coming

So, starting today, I will be posting every day until the event! There is plenty to talk about, including the activities of the speakers and some of the great people that have signed up already. Plus, I could talk about design all day long…
